The Alcon Clareon® TruPlus™ IOL is an enhanced monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) designed to provide excellent distance vision while also improving intermediate vision compared to a standard monofocal lens.
Enhanced monofocal IOLs, sometimes referred to as monofocal plus or intermediate-optimized lenses, aim to offer improved intermediate vision with minimal optical disturbances, such as the glare and halos.
Intermediate vision includes many of the visual tasks that are important in modern life, such as viewing a computer screen, reading a dashboard display, cooking, shopping, or seeing people across a room.
Unlike multifocal lenses, which split incoming light into multiple focal points, the TruPlus lens uses a refined optical design to gently extend the eye’s depth of focus.
Rather than creating multiple focal points like a multifocal lens, it concentrates on preserving sharp distance vision while improving the range of clear vision available between distance and near.

How Does the Alcon Clareon® TruPlus™ IOL Work?
The TruPlus IOL works by replacing the eye’s natural lens, which may have become clouded by cataracts or lost its ability to focus effectively due to age-related changes. Once the natural lens is removed during cataract surgery or Refractive Lens Exchange, the TruPlus lens is implanted inside the eye.
The lens permanently becomes part of the visual system and requires no maintenance.
Many patients appreciate that this approach can provide enhanced functional vision with a lower likelihood of visual disturbances such as halos, glare, or reduced contrast sensitivity that may sometimes occur with more aggressive presbyopia-correcting lenses.
